Today is the release of the 177-page PDF of the Alpha rules for the Tales of the Valiant RPG. This PDF includes:

• All the rules you need to make characters and begin playing
• Four classes up to level 5
• Weapon Options (as seen in Tome of Heroes)
• Magic item pricing
• Fabled magic items that grow in power as your character levels up
• Equipment, spells, talents, and more!
• Over 50 monsters ready to challenge ToV PCs!

Are You Accepting Feedback on the Alpha?

Heck yes! As the name implies, this is an early draft of the Tales of the Valiant RPG rules. Much like an alpha release of a video game, the Tales of the Valiant Alpha Release is an early version of the game, and there might be bugs in it (like the scorpion stat block!). We definitely want to hear your feedback as you read and play through the material in the Alpha. You can provide your feedback through the Alpha Release Feedback form on our website.

How Do I Get the Alpha?

If you pledged at any tier on this Kickstarter (from the $48 PDF Collection tier to the $699 Super-Deluxe Two-Book Set tier), you will receive an email today with instructions on how to redeem your coupon code to download the Alpha from the Kobold Press website. (See Downloading Your PDFs below.) The email address you provided in the Kickstarter survey is the email address we have linked to the store. If you have an account with the Kobold Press store under a different email address, please contact us via support.koboldpress.com with your Kobold Press store email address.

Downloading Your PDFs

To download your rewards, follow these 3 steps:

•  1. Sign In. Go to www.koboldpress.com, click Store > My Account, and sign in. Note: If you do not have an existing Kobold Press store account, you need to register a new account using your Kickstarter email address. (See below.)
•  2. Add Coupons. From the "My Account" page, click Coupons in the left-hand menu (or click https://koboldpress.com/kpstore/customer-coupons/ ). Clicking on a coupon adds both the product and discount to your cart. Once you’ve added all your items, click Proceed to Cart and complete the checkout process.
•  3. Download Files.Once checkout is complete, download the PDF(s) by clicking the Download links in the receipt or from My Account > Downloads.

We guarantee your Kickstarter reward code is available for one year after this release date.

Create a Kobold Press Store Account

To create an account, click Store > My Account > Create Account. The store will automatically sign you in after you complete the registration. You can then claim the Alpha PDF.

Troubleshooting

•  Slow Download: To avoid multiple orders stacking up in our account, check your Downloads page before attempting a second checkout. Your order may go through even when the site is working slowly or at high volume.
•  Lost Password: If you have forgotten your Kobold Press store password, visit http://koboldpress.com/kpstore/my-account/lost-password 
•  Missing Coupon: If you pledged at one of the tiers on the Kickstarter and you do not see a download coupon in your account, contact us via support.koboldpress.com. Please give the website up to 24 hours from the posting of this update to load your coupon.

Other Issues Getting the Alpha?

If you have tried all of the above and still can't claim your Alpha PDF or if you do not receive an email from us by 6 PM Pacific today, please contact us via support.koboldpress.com.

What if I Didn’t Pledge at a Tier? What if My Friend Wants a Copy?

The Alpha will be available for purchase on the Kobold Press website for those who didn’t back this Kickstarter. It will also be available as an addon in BackerKit during the pledge management phase (starting up soon) of the Kickstarter for those who backed the Kickstarter but not at a pledge tier.

What About the Caverns of the Spore Lord Adventure?

The Caverns of the Spore Lord is intended to accompany the Alpha and help you test some of the content within it. That adventure will be available later this week. Keep your eyes on these updates!

Leaping lizards, drakes, and dragons! The kobolds are stunned, blinded, and incapacitated by your amazing support! Thank you to each and every one of you 10,057 backers for making this our very first million-dollar Kickstarter! The Tales of the Valiant RPG will be a kobold dream come true because of all of you.

The kobolds need a few days to recover from all the excitement of this Kickstarter, then we’ll be back at it getting more playtest packets out to you, putting some of the early PDF adventures in your hands, sending world summary submissions to the judges, and polishing the Tales of the Valiant: Player’s Guide and Monster Vault (with the help of all the wonderful playtest feedback!) until they shine as bright as dragon scales.

What’s Next?

We have a lot to do in the coming weeks and months, and you can expect a lot of exciting things this summer and fall. Here’s a timeline of upcoming events (more on some of these in future updates):

•  June 24 – Guidelines for submitting your world summary will be posted. Here are the basics to get you started. 
•  July 2 at 11:59pm PT – World summary submission closes
•  July 18 – Announcement via Kickstarter of the winning world summaries
•  Early to Mid July – BackerKit pledge management tool goes live for Kickstarter backers
•  Mid July – Alpha release PDF sent to Kickstarter backers and put on sale for the public
•  Mid to Late July – Caverns of the Spore Lord adventure reward sent to Kickstarter backers as an adventure to accompany the Alpha release and put on sale for the public
•  August 4-6 – Gen Con with Tales of the Valiant RPG playtesting games
•  Late August – Bard and Warlock playtest packet goes live to Kickstarter backers
•  October 2023 – How to Speak Draconic PDF reward sent to Kickstarter backers and put on sale for the public

Starting in July, we’ll post monthly updates with our progress on the books, announcements when playtest waves go live, behind-the-scenes sneak peeks, and other ToV news as the weeks progress.

Today we have an interview with the team behind the Tales of the Valiant video you see on the main page of this Kickstarter. Our teams had a lot of fun creating the video, and we hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

We have a little over 48 hours left in this Kickstarter. Over the last few weeks, you have unlocked 17 stretch goals, including backer world submissions, three adventure PDFs, and the How to Speak Draconic and Guide to the Labyrinth PDFs…and now a GM screen, more backer world summaries, and another adventure PDF!!!

Now that we hit the (what we thought was) impossible $1 million stretch goal, let’s see if we can hit 10,000 backers! Be sure to share this Kickstarter far and wide to see how many kobolds we can squeeze into the warrens!
